The discovery of oil cleansing during the double cleansing routine is by far the best skincare hack for me although it may seem basic to some skincare & beauty enthusiasts.

When I think about skin care game changers, oil cleansing is definitely at the top of my list. I discovered the double cleansing routine mid-2019 and I made a conscious effort to intentionally include it in my routine and stay consistent with it, which I did.

What I noticed was that the effect I got from the adoption of oil cleansing was actually long term and skipping this step in my routine is not an option now. This should tell you how much I am into oil cleansing.

Oil cleansing means using an oil whether a natural oil or a formulated oil cleanser to get rid of makeup ,dirt , pore blockages, and/ or dead skin cells from your skin’s surface.

The idea behind oil cleansing is based on the fact that oil dissolves oil, and so the use of oil as a cleanser helps to lift excess sebum, which is an oily substance produced by the sebaceous glands found in your skin, while cleaning out clogged pores.

For me these are some concerns I have about my skin since I fall in the oily skin category and I must say I totally appreciate the essence of oil cleansing.

After a few days of staying. consistent with oil cleansing I noticed that there was some balance with oil production on my face. I could wear makeup for a couple of hours without getting oily which wasn’t the case initially. And even on days where I was makeup free it was evident that oil production was quite balanced which was impressive.

If you have to deal with oily skin then you can definitely relate to this. I also noticed that I hardly broke out and even if I did it was hormonal and it won’t stick around for a long time.

The ultimate satisfaction I get from oil cleansing is the fact that it literally melts off makeup upon application. It is such a satisfying moment and once I’m done it leaves my skin with a silky and smooth feel to it which at the same time feels hydrating.

It won’t be fair to leave out the fact that oil cleansing has acne healing properties and so in the event of a break out I tend to have lesser appearance of my breakouts. Don’t we all live for that?!

I oil cleanse once in a day and during my evening routine and it is the very first step of my routine. This step may be done by rubbing in the oil or balm for at least 60 seconds , I usually cleanse for 8 minutes and on a good day 15 minutes

I can confidently say oil cleansing has improved my skincare life and that is why the Take the Day off Cleansing Balm by Clinique remains my holy grail skincare product.

It was the first oil cleansing product I purchased and I have repurchased this a number of times , although I have tried other options like Jojoba oil and Grape seed oil I don’t seem to get enough of the cleansing balm.

The good thing about oil cleansing is that it is appropriate for all skin types, however it is important to discover whichever oil works for your skin type for the best results.

Everyone has a holy grail product, which one is yours ? Please do tell.
