Toners have evolved over the years from astringent alcohol-containing toners to toners that help refresh and treat the skin without making your skin extra dry.

An example of such toners are exfoliating toners.

What is it about exfoliating toners?

Exfoliating toners are toners infused with chemical exfoliants such as alpha hydroxy acids, fruit enzymes, and beta hydroxy acids, which help to remove dead skin cells clogging your pores while also minimizing dark spots and improving your overall skin tone and texture.

Wow!!! Exfoliating toners do all that good stuff.

How to choose an exfoliating toner suited to your skin needs

When choosing an exfoliating toner it is good to consider your skin type and skin needs;

Dry skin will benefit better from an exfoliating toner that is infused with Lactic acid because Lactic acid also hydrates the skin.

Oily and acne-prone skin will benefit from exfoliating toners rich in beta hydroxy acid because this chemical exfoliant can penetrate deep into the pores. They can also benefit from other alpha hydroxy acids like glycolic acid and lactic acid.

Sensitive skin will benefit from toners infused with chemical exfoliants like mandelic acid and poly hydroxy acids because of their larger molecular size, these acids are less irritating to the skin.

How to use an exfoliating toner

Exfoliating toners should be used after cleansing or after cleansing and toning with a hydrating toner.

What Percentage of Exfoliating Toner is safe to use.

It is advisable to start with low percentages of exfoliating toners in order to prevent skin irritation.

Is it Ideal to Use an Exfoliating Toner Every day?

It is not advisable to use an exfoliating toner daily, it’s best to introduce it slowly into your routine to prevent irritation. It is advised that you start by using a liquid exfoliant once or twice a week at first to see how your skin handles it.
